  • JOSEPH J. GARVEY

    Mr. Garvey is a Partner with the law firm of Garvey Ballou, P.A. He graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1971. He served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1971-1974 as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He was awarded letters of commendation from the Chief of Naval Operations for his participation in “Operation Homecoming” for returning prisoners of war from Vietnam and from the Secretary of the Navy for overseeing the construction of the Navy Chapel at the Washington Navy Yard. Mr. Garvey attended Law School at the Catholic University of America, obtaining his Juris Doctor in 1976.


    Mr. Garvey has been practicing law in the State of New Jersey since 1976. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, The District of Columbia, The United States Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit; United States Court of Appeals Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Since 1983, Mr. Garvey has been recognized by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney. He has been recertified four times, most recently in 2011. Mr. Garvey practices primarily in the areas of civil litigation and the general civil practice of law. The areas of law involved in Mr. Garvey’s practice have included personal injury litigation, construction litigation, products liability and medical malpractice.


    Mr. Garvey is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Ocean County Bar Association. He has served as a member of the District IIIA Ethics Committee. He is a member of the New Jersey Defense Association and served as its President from 2010-2011 and as its Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 2011-2012. Mr. Garvey is a member of the Defense Research Institute and served as the representative from New Jersey. He received the Annual Trial Bar award from the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey in 2012. Mr. Garvey returned to Stevens Institute of Technology in 2010 to teach courses in Constitutional Law and Judicial Process in the College of Arts and Letters. He currently serves on the Stevens Institute of Technology Board of Trustees.


    In the community, Mr. Garvey was the Executive Vice President of the Toms River Little League and the President of the Toms River Basketball Association. He is currently serving as Chairman of the Toms River Recreation Advisory Committee and is the division leader for the Toms River Basketball Challenger Division for autistic children.

  • ROBERT A. BALLOU JR.

    Mr. Ballou is a Partner with the law firm of Garvey Ballou, P.A. He graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1979. Mr. Ballou attended Seton Hall University School of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctor in 1982.


    Mr. Ballou has been practicing law in the State of New Jersey since 1982. He was also admitted to the bar in the State of New York in 1983. Mr. Ballou is admitted to the United States District Court-District of New Jersey and the United States Court of Appeals Third Circuit.


    Mr. Ballou practices primarily in the areas of civil litigation and the general civil practice of law. The areas of law involved in Mr. Ballou’s practice have included personal injury litigation, construction litigation, products liability and premises liability. Mr. Ballou has extensive experience representing self-insured clients.


    Mr. Ballou is a member of the Ocean County Bar Association, the New Jersey Defense Association and the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey. He has served as a Member of the District IIIA Ethics Committee and the Ocean County District Fee Arbitration Committee.

  • SUZANNE WHITE BALLOU

    Ms. Ballou graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983. She attended the Seton Hall University School of Law, obtaining her Juris Doctor in 1986.


    Ms. Ballou has been admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey since 1987. She is also admitted in the United States District Court, District of New Jersey. Ms. Ballou’s practice primarily deals with personal injury litigation. She is a member of the Ocean County Bar Association and the New Jersey Defense Association.
